Osten is a superfan. Afraid to leave hIs own apartment, he lives a vicarious life through Su-Jin, Korea's most famous K-pop star.
But when Su Jin dies after apparently throwing herself off a cliff, he finds himself drowning in an emotional void.

He cannot imagine a life without her, and unable to let her go, he slowly adopts her persona. He posts as her on social media,
he sings as her, he digitally becomes her...

Believing he's finally found his true identity, his reality is broken when the what appears to be the ghost of Su-Jin appears at his door,
demanding that he let her go.

But can he? He loves what she was, but can he love who she was?

The Other Side is a story of fandom, obsession and love in this narcissistic post-truth age.

Music and Lyrics by Yuri Worontschak

 The Other Side

Musical Style:

-Asian Contemporary- K-POP,

- R&B (the tone of the musical, dialogue and progressions) Osten’s voice.

- Classical Dark underscore (The soul of the world)

Cast:

- Su-jin

- World famous Asian pop solo artist. She is tiring of the machinery of fame and wants to explore new musical directions. She is the product of a State run “cultural” system making music for the masses. Freedom is important to her, and she overcompensates by keeping people at arms’ length.

Played by an Asian woman

- Osten

- Su-jin’s #1 fan. Obsessed with her. Osten is agoraphobic, a hoarder and lives at in his apartment on Roosevelt Island with his pet cat, Gremlin. He has a deep sense of abandonment, which leads to his hoarding. His hoarding extends to people, leading to bad relationships.Played by a man

The play can be played by a cast of 2 and can even be mounted in 2 separate theatres -in NY and Asia.

We are exploring ways to make this happen.

The Songs:

The songs and music presented in the following outline are works in progress and meant to capture the tone of the show in the places they occur. They will change and evolve as the musical is polished. Please note that the video content is essentially eye candy and not to be taken literally.

The Underscore: Sets the mood

Gotta Love Shift Control
Our two heroes finding their soul through love.
The Closing Theme Song
(Osten and Cast)

Not much to laugh about

When the word sucks all the time

And everybody’s fakin’ fine

Not so funny when those guys you despised

Got the prize

Drinking all that fine fine wine

Not much to laugh about

When the world is killing you

And the man keeps billing you

And the fear of being broken is chillin‘

Is chillin’ you

It’s so cold, oh lord

It’s now time

You can turn it all around

Do it with a smile

Stare your old life down

You’ve got to love

Why not make a start

May be raining outside

But there’s sunshine in your heart

You’ve got to laugh

You gotta smile

Show the world

That you got style

You’ve got to love

Shift Control

Show the world

You got soul

Not much to laugh about

All I’ve ever been was a crazy fan

Surely I can be that better man

With a better plan

For a better day

For my humanity

It’s high time

To turn it all around

Do it with a smile

Stare your old life down

We’ve got to love

Why not make a start

May be raining outside

But there’s sunshine in your heart

Were got to laugh etc...

Denoument: walking out that door (Duet)

ACT 1

SCORE: OPENING THEME

INT. RECORDING STUDIO / SEOUL - MORNING

We open on a press Conference: Su-jin faces reporters. She has all the fame, but little control of her life. She announces her new song —

One Korea - a specially commissioned piece in collaboration with Government - a song that focuses on reunification. A big production number.

This is Su-Jin's first attempt at being a solo artist after being in a mega-successful all girl band "PopK" since her early teens.

She supports reunification but not so not keen on writing for the State.

You came into my lonely room

Into my life you appear

Like an angel before my eyes

Materialise

Then you disappear

(Then you disappear)

If I can just get my story to you

And figure out why I’m here

Right now I’m so confused

And face my greatest fear

Are you on the other side?
And can I reach you on the other side?

You know this a dream come true

So what am I doing here with you?

On the other side?

Hey Su-Jin we can work this out

Hey Osten I don’t have a doubt

Let's get together into the light

And make what’s wrong with us

Let’s make it right

And meet you on the other side…

I’ll meet you on the other side…

One Korea
A propaganda song song for new solo artist (Su-Jin)

My love is for Eternity

(My love is for Eternity)

Some sunny day we’ll all be free

(We sing our song in harmony)

We’ll sing our song in perfect harmony

(My love is for Eternity)

My love is deeper than the sea

(My love is deeper than the sea)

One land one people

You and Me

(We sing our song in harmony)

We sing our song

We’re a symphony

A mountain we will climb

And swim the ocean wide

To be side by side

For One Korea

Together we will be

One land forever free

And live in unity

For One Korea

It is our destiny

The best we can be

We are all family

For One Korea x3

In recognition of her fans, Su-jin will be live streaming the performance and screen sharing with the fan who achieves the most re-posts.

She's uber professional but secretly dying inside, despite the Gala atmosphere of the launch.

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS

Meanwhile in Roosevelt (Welfare) Island, New York, Osten dreams of being Su-jin. In the confines of his apartment, watching her press conference on a live-stream, he pretends to be there with her.

He pulls up an email response she once sent him. "Thank you for your letter" goes her email, "I love hearing from my fans. You are all my special friends." In his mind, Osten is her special friend.

Osten is kind of happy with his lot but he is begins to question it.  He knows something is wrong but has long been in denial. He yearns for his previous life.

Zero One
Osten's sad, binary world (Osten)

 (010011011100110111001001011001)

I’m happy here

If I want a pizza

I just call for one

And for entertainment

I talk to my computer

So happy here

In my room on Welfare Island

On FaceBook I have lots of friends

Who like me

I have influence

Happy Here

So binary

The world is sad or happy

Rad or Crappy

Coke or Fanta
Muz or Santa

No chance of Nuance

No escape from the

Zero Zero One

INT. SU-JIN'S IMAGINED MANSION - CONTINUOUS

An imaginary conversation between Osten & Su-jin: Osten tells her that it must be great being her -she can do what she wants. She agrees. Being her is an amazing experience. She has the best life that anyone could imagine. The conversation ends with her extending an invitation to him to come visit. Fading back into the real world, he goes to the door...and can go no further.

Osten goes back to the computer and has a sing-a-long with one of his old faves. He truly believes that Su-Jin's life is "golden".

Gold
Osten (singing along) , Su-Jin and her old group sing their old hit about materialism (Duet)

Give me the sparkle

Give me the shine

Give me the ring

And you can be mine

Give me your heart

Give me your soul

You got the action

You got it all

Gold

FANTASY AND FULL OF ATTITUDE. SU-JIN SINGS THAT SHE’S GOT FERRARIS AND PORSCHES, MILLION DOLLAR MANSIONS. MILLION DOLLAR LOVE. GOLD IS EMBLEMATIC OF THE 1980s CULTURE  OF GREED ALL TARTED UP FOR THE 2020s

KPOP, DRIPPING WITH ATTITUDE AND FUNKY VOCALISATIONS. OSTEN BUYS INTO IT LIKE HE’S BORN TO IT. IN THIS FANTASY SONG SHE INVITES HIM INTO HER LIFE. ALL HE HAS TO DO IS WALK THROUGH THE DOOR...SO MUCH MORE THAN A DREAM.

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - LATER

Osten struggles with the stark terror of going outside, then returns to his computer, rallying and becoming defensive. He's okay. He chooses not to leave. Somewhere in all the piles of boxes, stacks of clothes, heaps of toys and tins, is something for him. He wants for nothing in his collected Heaven. He has everything he needs. The world comes to him. Food? It's delivered. Clothes are enroute. Language, it's all figured. Laundry, a chute.

He is an island in a sea of technology, awash with tides of connection and waves of communication. Dr. Google is his friend.

Convincing himself that all is fine, Osten gets an alert that Su-jin's new mix of an old band song is live.

INT. SOEUL CONCERT STAGE / OSTEN'S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS

Using all the technology at his command, plus a deep personal love of her, Osten immediately translates, re-sings and reposts. "I am your number one fan", he posts to her. And this is my gift to you.

Thanks to Doctor Google his is translation is more than literal - we can hear the love he has for her in the music. His reposts start trending, and soon he finds himself sharing a screen with her, in front of the entire internet.

They sing in a kind of time-delayed Duet. Supernova Superstar is Osten's fantacy on what Su-Jin will be when she grows up. He will later realise that she has "grown up" and the song is just State propaganda.

Supernova  Superstar
Su-Jin's and Osten virtually sing a hit (Duet)

Rock my world

You Superstar

Fly with me

And we’ll will go

To the stars

A brand new galaxy

Come on girl

All aboard

Just be fierce

And you’ll adore

A brand new world

Just for you and me

A Super Nova Shooting star

Be the best

At who you are

Be the Girl

That you want to be

A Super Nova Mega-Star

Be true to

To who you are

Just be that girl

That girl you want to be

Be that girl that you want to be x2

Rock my world

Just go girl

Head off into the world

Be yourself be brave

And just be free

Express yourself

You’ll go far

You will be a Superstar

Be that girl you want to be

A Super Nova Shooting star

Be that girl that you want to be x2

A Super Nova Mega-Star

Be true to

To who you are

Just be that girl

That girl you want to be

INT. SU-JIN'S APARTMENT

Later in Seoul, Su-jin is talking to her manager via Zoom. They are arguing over her song. It's gone viral. Downloads are through the roof and fans are clamouring for more. Westerners love it too, especially the translation by @OstenTacious747, who has outdone himself on this one.

But Su-jin is angry, both with her manager and her super-fan. Everyone is getting what they want except her. She tells him about a new song she wants to release. It's a ballad called 'Adored' and it's a new direction for her. She wants to sing from her soul. Her manager tells her no - it's a career killer. He will not permit her to do it. Doesn't she know how lucky she is? She has everything most people would kill for. They get into an argument and he tells her she doesn't know what she wants. The song is actually exactly about what she wants.

Doctor Google
Su-Jin and Osten share a friend (Duet)

Oh Doctor Google

So full of charm

You come fully armed

With all I want to know

You tell me everything

And tie it up in a bow

You are My Friend

I am your friend

Yo Doctor Google

Translate for me

What’s written here from Korea

Is double dutch to me

Your everything

That I ever want know

You are my friend

I am your friend

How many times have you come through

With fun facts

It’s so easy for you

So many times have I’ve been screwed

Now I’m not so dumb

Thanks to you

Dr. Google

So full of stuff

More than enough

Information for me

A touchstone for my sanity

An escape from Reality

Dr Google

Are you my friend?

I am your friend

Adored
Su-Jin's solo "I want" song (Su-Jin)

I've been waiting always waiting

Lord knows I've been as patient as my cat

I've been humble so very humble

Kept my ambition under wraps

I've been careful so very careful

No  lines crossed nothing untoward

And I've been quiet so very quiet

And yet I've never been Adored

I've been careful so very careful

Not to rock the boat

But I can't take it anymore

I have talent and been so very smart

Yet I've never been adored

Now it's time I have to change

I will never be the same

Now it's time for me to be

adored

INT. SU-JIN'S BEDROOM / OSTEN'S APARTMENT / CONCERT STAGE - MOMENTS LATER

Su-jin flashes back to her pre-fame days and how she achieved stardom with her first song about her cat.

The post when she was 8 years old was liked by millions and made her a celebrity. A manufactured band "Pop" was created by her manager to capitalise on her success. The success damaged her family, her parents split up and her siblings estranged.

My Cat
Su-Jin's 8 year old internet post (Su-Jin)

My Cat loves me

Cause he is awesome

My Cat just loves me

He is always there for me

And I have named him Henry

He gets so hungry

It’s time for his treat

My Cat loves me

And I love my cat

I know

It’s just a meme

Directed at me

But gosh it’s so sweet

What’s real cannot compare

To all that’s out there

It’s such a treat

Su-jin is sitting on a bed and playing a keyboard to a webcam, talking about song ideas with her friends and fans. She wants to sing to the world. Her song and video are a hit, and it segues to a younger Osten discovering her on the internet, then translating her song. He wants to be like her. These are early Twitter days and this is how Ostern came to Sujin's attention. Social Media was so much more innocent then and Su-Jin and Osten made e-friends. even Osten even send her his real address.

With increasing frequency "imagines" he is singing with Su-Jin.

Once Google was mastered Su-Jin and Osten reminisce on the joys of Posting.

Twitter Tweet
Osten's imaginary duet (a virtual Duet)

EXT. SEOUL PARKLAND - THE NEXT DAY

Back in her home in Seoul Su-jin begins work on her solo album  'From The Cliff To The Sea' but to her horror, she hits a creative block. She decides to do what she used to do - and posts a work in progress to the world. This isn't about commercialising a song, it's about rediscovering art.

In a Dream
Su-Jin's solo work on her surreal life (Su-Jin)

Am In a Dream

Or is this fantasy

Am I in a dream

Am In a Dream

Or is this where I want to be

Am I in a dream

Am I

Am I

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - EVENING

Back with Osten, as he goes online about her new song.  Osten gets caught up in an online tweet-storm / forum-storm about Su-jin betraying her fans, and he begins defending her, living his own super-fan life, crossing lines.

He starts speaking on her behalf, arguing with many voices from the internet. He knows her better than anyone.

Both (separately) sing a song about how unjust "truth" has become in the world.

Alternative Truth
Su-Jin and Osten and their virtual world (V-Duet)

Can’t be this wrong

Cause the feeling’s so right

Was it a disaster?

Have you wasted your time?

So let’s just hang in there

Even though you seem like a mixed up girl

I want someone like you

To be right here with you

In this mixed up world

I just want

To search for what is true

To find the answer

Of another life to pursue

When I try to find it

My mind gets heavy and I just get confused

I’m just a girl

Who lives in a world

Of Alternative Truth

Right or Wrong

Right or Wrong

It used to be clear

It used to be clear

Now it’s been replaced

By lying and fear

And when you try to fight it

You just get confused

Cause we live in  world

Of Alternative Truth

We  live in this world

INT. SU-JIN'S STUDIO - NIGHT

Su-jin's post, and the song is a complete failure. She starts receiving creepy fan mail. She gets overwhelmed. Much of the mail is hysterical: full of hatred and betrayal over of her new song. She gets a visit from her manager, who threatens to sue her over breach of contract. The world has turned against her. Fans are hysterical and hateful.

Su-jin is devastated. At her naiveté and at the vitriol from people who don't know her. It is a crisis, and worse yet, she can't even finish the song. There is so much noise in her life, so much hatred. And all of it taking her further from who she used to be, and who she can be again. She decides she needs to find a way out. She decides to fake her own death.

EXT. THE CLIFF - NIGHT

Her plan is this: while using her phone to live-stream herself near an actual cliff, she will pretend to fall, but in reality land on the ledge just out of sight. To the world she will appear to have fallen to her death; a most poetic ending.

And so, on a stormy night, she streams to the world. She falls from a cliff into a storm racked sea.

SCORE: FACING THE CLIFF

BASED ON THE ORCHESTRAL SCORE, FACING THE CLIFF IS QUIET AND REFLECTIVE. SU-JIN LAYS OUT THE PLAN: FAKE HER OWN DEATH, THEN START AGAIN AS NEW PERSON - A FREE PERSON. IT’S QUIET AND WILL CONTRAST TO THE SOUNDS OF WAVES AND A GROWING STORM. THE SONG IS NOT VICTORIOUS, BUT REFLECTIVE OF A LAST-RESORT PLAN. THIS ISN’T WHAT SHE WANTS, BUT SHE CAN’T IMAGINE ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE.

Her body is not found.

SCORE: GHOST

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - THE NEXT DAY

Back in Roosevelt Island, upon seeing the news, Osten's own life is over. He's devastated. You can't end he says to the spirit of her. People like me end, not you. He begins writing a requiem on social media — but half way through the post, he stops. He still can't believe she's dead.

The universe should not allow such a travesty. She isn't dead, he realises. The artistic spirit of her continues. And perhaps, that spirit has fallen to him. So he changes the requiem to first-person, writing as if from her point of view. And from that point of view, promises her fans the completed song.

Predictably this creates a brand new Tweet Storm: Social media starts exploding with thousands of copycat and genuine tributes. Osten's own tribute leaps to the top. Fans start asking the question of Osten's account: are you really Su-jin?

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - LATER

To Osten, this all makes sense. He comes to believe he really is the incarnation of the spirit Su-jin. He begins tweeting / posting as her. Then, dressing like her from one of his many hoarded piles of clothing, posts a pic. He decides something - I will never let you go.

There are no some very serious issues with Osten's identity.

There's a knock on his door. He opens it to come face to face with Su-jin. LEAVE ME BE! she cries. Ah! he screams, A GHOST! and passes out.

END OF ACT 1

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SCORE: ACT 2

ACT 2

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - MOMENTS LATER

You have to let me be! Su-jin tells Osten that he needs to stop pretending to be her. She faked her death to get out of the publicity machine -not to get more attention. People will investigate. He tells her that he doesn't believe her: she is a ghost.

He explains it is his duty to complete her unfinished business. She tells him that she won't leave him alone until he quits.

He's ecstatic. OMG - Haunted by Su-jin! Su-jin tells him he one uncool cat.

What it's Like to Be Me
Su-Jin's telling Osten that she's had enough (Su-Jin)

What the hell are you doing to me?

Don’t you get it?

I’m so alone and so unhappy

What the hell are you writing for

Cause you’ll never know

What it’s like

What it’s like to be me

Why the hell are you so cruel

Don’t you get it

I’m not that girl

In your sick world

What the hell it’s my identity

Christ you’ll never know

What it’s like

What it’s like to be

What it’s like to be me

Another Place
Osten and Su-Jin meet (Duet)

EXT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - LATER

Outside the apartment block, people begin assembling.  Reporters begin speculating about the possibility of Su-jin being there. Su-jin tells Osten that someone must have followed her.

She can't leave now - she'll be spotted for sure. True enough - reporters are massing outside, sensing a story. He explains to her that actually, they must have traced his physical address from his social accounts. She tells him to stop being such a geek.

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - LATER

They begin to spar. She tells him he needs to let her go. He tells her that she has unfinished business. Of course, she admits, it's unfinished. How could I finish my song with the pressure from you all? You only allowed me to be one thing. I am more than that. Everyone is more than one thing.

Osten is shocked. He thought she was a friend. Just open the door, she says, and tell them you're pretending to be me. I can't he says. He can't stop the pretence. The eyes of the world are on him, the whole world is coming to me. And she understands then that he can't let go -let go of the growing fame, or let go of her.

Where the flippin’ hell did you come from?

And why the flippin’ hell are you here?

I was so happy in my man cave

I dropped in just to say that you’re crazy

You can’t sing and you certainly can’t write

Well I’m doin’ the better job that you

Since you damned disappeared

I had to find another place

Another world

A world without fear

I had to find my identity

That is really me

And you’re so not helping here

Well I found my other place

Outside this man cave

A world without fear

And I now have an identity

Stop messing with me

And get the hell out of here

Please leave me alone

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - THE NEXT DAY

Listen, she says. Let's call a truce. I will write one new song, and you can say it was from me, a secret song no-one knew about. We can pretend to have been best friends, and that I sent it to you. You can take it to the world and have your own fame. But after that, you have to stop. You have to let me go.

Osten thinks hard on this offer and agrees. She tells him — first things first. She's not a ghost. She feels -- she can touch the world. And also — he can't be in love with her. Osten  gets serious and loses his playfulness for a moment — of course you're not a ghost. But you have to understand -

I'm not in love with you, I'm in love with idea of you. This hits her harder than she expects.

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT / TWITTERVERSE - LATER

But writing that song is also harder than Su-jin thought, and she becomes bogged down in her work. In a montage Osten can’t help but put out social posts of himself 'being' her. Tweeting parts of their conversation. Outside interest and pressure builds. I am more you than you, he says one time.

Brand New Day
Su-Jin and Osten's I want song (Duet)

I want a brand new day

To find my way

I wanna be found

I wanna be found

I want a brand new day

To just be me

Get on Down

Yeh Get on Down

Sometime I feel low

I want to go

To a place you don’t want to know

You don’t want to know

Sometime I feel high

Want to touch the sky

But it’s another place I don’t want to be there

Just want a brand new day

Define my way

Don’t wanna be sad

I just want to be in a new place

Define some new space

And Get on Down

Yeah Get on Down

A brand new day

We’ll both be free

So let's go back
To a time when life was better (Duet)

All I ever wanted is some certainty

Cause every day is like a freaking year to me

And what ever happened to everyone’s integrity?

I guess it just went the same way

As our Sanity

Can we every get back to a Yesterday?

Or do we have to live this dammed life

In this way?

Let’s Go Back to Yesteryear

A time we can be our best selves again

A time we can be real again

Like make love to our friends

Feel again

Be a big deal again

And in our yesteryear

We can heal again

I just dream of a time

I can sing again

And for my mum and dad

To be friends again

And for my family

To be one again

The simple things of yesteryear

To live my life

Without, without a fear

Now I just wonder what I’m doing in this place

Let’s Go Back to Yesteryear

 Just hangin’,just cussin’

Just jammin’, no fussin’

I’m chillin’, no judgin’

I’m willin’ to be in

My past at last a story’s told

Me how bold I was

And how I lost my identity

And how I wanna be

Bold again, free again

Sane again

All I have is Yesteryear

So let's go back

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - LATER

She eventually cracks and blows up at him. She can't work like this. How can anyone work in this space? They assess the apartment. It's hoarder's heaven, and vile. With her help, Osten begins to tidy up. Time to dump the junk. He resists, explaining that everything has a history. Everything in his apartment means something. She tells him that he needs to learn to let things go. But then what? he says. I'll be alone. That's what doors are for, she says. So they clean up.

As they do so they share about their own pasts. She pushed people away, always feeling tied down. He was the opposite — collecting and never letting things go. Even me? She asks. He is chagrined.

Osten thinks of the life he used to have and reminisces about re-booting and starting life again.

A Better Man
Osten Reminisses (Osten)

So maybe I could be more discreet

It would take another life time

And just maybe

I could get on my feet again

Life would be so divine

If I could back up my time

And start all over again

And wipe that drive from my life

Would I be a better man?

Could I be

The Second Time Around?

Would I be

Could I be a better man?

May be can re-set life again

Wipe the drive hit Shift Control

That would be so refreshening

Man I could have another chance

Once and for all

Life could be so divine

If I learned how to be kind

And may be for this second time

I will know how to be loved

Come on Over to the Other Side

It’s gonna make me a better man

Come on Over to the Other Side

Re-doin’ life the best I can

Come on Over to the Other

To the Other Side

So glad I got that second chance

Come on Over to the Other Side

Osten

So would I be a better man?

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - THE NEXT DAY

The apartment is transformed, and Osten, strangely, feels the walls pressing in. Su-jin tells him that he's feeling the call of freedom. Osten doesn't like the sound of that.

My Voice
Searching for meaning (Duet)

I’ve been couped up in this place

Afraid to Show My Face

For many years

I have not been outside

Am I really blessed

With all my Success

For many Years

I have not felt inside

And my dammed consciousness is

Such a Mess

Inside I can’t hide

And my voice is all I can control

And my voice is just out of control

My Voice

It’s Our Choice

Even though they've transformed the apartment, and with it, some of nature of their own relationship, Su-jin still struggles with the song. Meanwhile, Osten finds it more and more difficult to pretend to be her. At first, it's simply because his hoarded mass of 'props' is gone, but then it's more to do with feeling like a counterfeit. He tries to send a post — but can't.

INT. THE IMAGINED WORLD - LATER

Eventually they both grind to a standstill. Her song is stalled. His impersonation is stalled. Then, with nothing else to do, he helps her with the writing. He injects part of his true self into the work, and she backs off enough to let it happen.

At the end, what they have is something neither expected, but both love. His lyrics yearn for freedom and the rush of the world, while hers seek quiet and refuge. It's a contrast of wishes, contradictory and also somehow complimentary.

FINALLY THEIR FRIENDSHIP HAS BECOME GENUINE. A BREAK FROM THE PRESSURE OF IDENTITY AND FAME AND THEIR HANG UPS.

I'm Alive
Su-Jin's and Osten's realisation (Duet)

I’m alive x4

My life has been

Always wanting

For my dreams to come true

But it was never

Happening until someone

Loved me for me

Loved me for me

I worshipped you

You were my Super Nova

But that wasn’ t you

And I thought my life was over

And now you’re here

It’s a dream come true

I’m alive x12

You’re like my Casinova

You are my Super Nova

Our lonely days are over

I’m Alive x4

INT. OSTEN'S APARTMENT - LATER

Gotta Love | Shift Control is a song neither of them alone could have accomplished. He's about to publish it - using her name, then reconsiders. Su-jin suggests it's a co-written song. And so it goes out with both their names.

The song is beautiful and sensational.

The writing has changed them both. Osten stares at the door. He doesn't want to be here anymore. Neither does Su-jin. I think, says, Osten, that I should let you go.

Osten opens the door to his apartment for the first time in twelve years.

He offers his hand to Su-jin, but blinks as she fades away in the light of the morning.

That's funny, says, Su-jin, because I've let you in.

And her ghostliness dissolves. Was she faking it?...it doesn't matter.

Osten swallows his shock, then turns to the crowd, literally ready to face the music.
